Recommit Yourself To A Walkabout In 2012

I must say it has been fun creating Walkabout The Flylady Way Closed Group and also  Walkabout The Flylady Way Page Health/Wellness.  This all started by Shining My Sink each day.  What does shining a sink got to do with a Walkabout?  It got me "Moving!"  My main focus has been on Getting Dressed To Shoes, Hair & Makeup The Flylady Way.  It is very important to me to continue this journey.  I understand how doing thiese habits each and every day can benefit a person in many avenues of their life.   There is lots of indirect blessings happening that are like icing on the cake.

How Walkabout The Flylady Way came about was because of my addiction to two slices of butter and peanut butter toast each morning.  Flylady's Monthly Habit for May is "Moving In May".  You see part of Flylady is to create monthly habits to practice each day of a particular month.  By the end of the year, a flybaby can be flying high as a result of this.  I started practicing this habit in May.  Somehow it didn't become a habit.

One day, June 16th in fact I stepped on the scale and did not like what I saw.  The weather was finally getting nice in South Dakota after a very long hard winter.  If I wanted to get some weight off and focus on Health and Wellness I am going to have to move each day.  I also need to have it fun.  Most of my adult life I have walked.  My first dog Meg loved to go walking.  I knew Lily did too.  She was a bit of a handful at first.  Daschunds are very strong.  I started out with a regular collar.  She would pull me and gag at the same time.  I thought that has to be hard on her neck.  In any event we started by simply walking around the block.

I decided my walks are going to have to have a fun name.  That is why I call it "Walkabout."  Since this started, members have called everything about.  Walkabout, Bikeabout, Stepabout, Danceabout, Rockabout, Leafabout, Weedabout, Gardeningabout, Grocery ShoppingAbout, Mall Walkabouts.  You get the idea here.

I was having fun with my new camera when I got the idea to take pictures along the way.  I know I was saying we were going on walkabouts but how would anyone know?  This was such a success that other flybabies joined the group and started to do the same thing.  It was like taking a mini vacation.

Now, I am ready to step up a bit more and really focus on what types of food I put into my mouth.  I am a bit scared because I don't know how it is all going to work and keep Flying like I have been.  I started juicing again and eating salads.  It is interesting on how your tastebuds change.  I think before they had a coating of gluten, creams, etc that blanketed my taste buds and dulled them so I wanted to eat more to get satisfied.  This was the approach on a Dr. Oz show one day.  He also talked about the number of taste buds each person has is like a fingerprint.  No two are alike.

What Is My Mission For 2012 And This Blog?
Some of this I have already discussed.  One thing that so many of us are great at is making the lists of things we want to do and eat.  Where we falter is implementing them.  I have a great start to this by starting this blog, creating a Facebook Page Walkabout The Flylady Way Health/Fitness and also a closed group called Walkabout The Flylady Way .  Now, I feel it is time to take it a step further and to begin to record when I exercise and what I eat.

I already know I will stumble and fall.  I also know I have the tools and lessons from Flylady that I will be using and now I found my own motto "I Always Make Progress When I Jump Back In!"

I also have my main blog The Flylady Way.  I know there is going to be some crossover to this blog.  I am trying my best to keep it separate.

I have been juicing for 3 days now working this into a Habit.  Last year in March is when I started taking photos of Getting Dressed To Shoes Hair and Makeup.  I published my first photo on the 10th of the month.  Well, I have 10 days of eating healthy and doing some form of exercise each day.  So why not today?  I have found an exercise partner and we will be starting to go to town to the Field House in Clark on Friday.  Today I will do some light exercises.

I also have Fibromyalgia and my body is in a flare today.  This is from changing my eating habits.  I need to increase my water intake to flush out the toxins from all the Christmas Goodies I consumed.  It is natural for a body to react this way.  It is like quitting drinking alchohol if you are used to drinking every day.  Mine has been toast.  I haven't had any for 4 days. I just have to ride this out.

Are you ready to start this journey with me?  I am afraid because I don't want to lose all of my habits and routines I have developed through Flylady.  Maybe Flylady would say that is natural to feel this way.  The best thing to do is Tell myself I am never behind and not to try to catch up.  Just jump in where you are!  Today I have established that I will go to the Field House on Tuesdays and Fridays.  I have a partner that is willing.  It is Jenna West.  I called her and asked her and she was very excited about it.

I used to belong to gyms most of my adult life until I moved in a more rural area.  I did great working out and enjoyed it.  The flip side was I was living in chaos in my home.  So am I going to be able to do both?  This is the question I am asking myself and am sharing with you.  So, if you are interested in joining this journey with me in some form, here we go!  Enjoy the ride!
Here is my starting point.  5'7"  185 lbs  52 years old.

Today is Tuesday and light exercises are what I will be doing to wake my muscles up.

Taking Down Christmas Tree Decorations And What's For Dinner??

Christmas is over.  New Year's is on its way.  Taking Christmas Decorations down before the New Year is a personal choice.  Many times it has to do with when you first put up the tree.  If it is a live tree and has become a fire hazard, by all means it should be a priority.  Some like to keep it up for all of the sparkly lights and decoration at least till the New Year.

Types of Christmas Undecorators
Some of you when you take down your Christmas Decorations will just throw then in a box and deal with it next year.  Some of this can be related to how well you Christmas went.

Some had the messy box of ornaments and lights all tangled this year that you vowed when it was time, you would put it all away in an organized manner.  You want to put it away "Perfectly."  We are so great at setting this all up.  Markers, tape, boxes, totes.  Now what?  Someone in the family is going to say, "I'm Hungry.  What's For Dinner?"  What is for Dinner anyway?  Whoops, I forgot to take something out because I was so involved at putting away my Christmas Decorations perfectly.   Now, boxes and totes are all over the Living Room without knowing the faintest thing what will be for dinner.

Wait a minute! Did I wake up to a Shiny Sink?  Did I get dressed to shoes?  Did I make my bed?  What about Swishing & Swiping?  Are there phone calls that need to be made?  Have I put a load of laundry in the washing machine yet?  Well, have you????

The reason I wrote this so extreme is to make a point.  I have been in the same above situation so many times!  My answer to these questions?  It has always been "No" I will do it later.  That is up until this year.  This year I get to say "Yes!" to those questions!

I know many of you want to get your Christmas Decorations down, but at the expense of letting go of your Daily Habits and Routines?  Try taking your decorations down one box at a time.  If you do this before you know it you will have time to put them away by category.  Then you can label the particular box.  We have to put Christmas Decorations up in a special order- Lights first, then Garland, then Ornaments.  Well, let's all take them off in reverse.  Ornaments is where it takes time, especially if it has its own special box.

Why not have an "Undecorating Party?"  That is what I plan to do!  My neighbor girls love all kinds of parties!  If I make it fun, It will get done!  My plans are New Years Eve if the girls will be available.  I already know, "What's For Dinner?" on this particular day.  It will be PIZZA!!!!
Keep Flying!

The Flylady Way: Five Ways To Jump Start Flylady

The Flylady Way: Five Ways To Jump Start Flylady: There are times when we get into a Flylady Slump. We don't mean to. It's like clutter. It creeps up on us. There are many reasons we fal...

Are You Ready For The Clutter Christmas May Bring To Your New Year?

Right now we are dealing with a form of clutter.  It is not the usual.  It is all the presents we are wrapping.  It doesn't bother us so much because the wrapped gift is in our home temporarily until it is given to to the person it is intended for.

It also seems where the presents are wrapped are on the Dining Room Table.  Many just set up shop there and then when it comes to dinner time many are eating in a chair in the Living Room or standing by a counter in the Kitchen.  In any case it is going to be something that we don't normally do in our usual schedule eleven months out of the year.

Fast forward the day after Christmas.  You have gotten several presents because you were good this year.  That is great!  Now, where will they go?  Flylady says, "If you bring something new into your home, two or more items need to be decluttered."  Yet we don't do this do we?  We overlook this because we have moved on to our New Year's Resolutions.  Then when it comes time to practice the first Monthly Habit of the Year, "Shining Your Sink", we don't think we have time to do this.  We have all these presents we got and need to find a place for them.  This is where we set ourselves up to fail.  It isn't intentional.  It is like clutter, it grows.  It is that "Catching Up" mentality that we have been doing for so long.  Why not stop this in the coming year!  How will you do it?  By looking at the presents you got for Christmas and ask yourself these questions:

  1. Do I Love This Item?
  2. Will I Use It In The Coming Year?
  3. Is It Really Garbage?
  4. Do I Have Another One That Can Be Blessed To Another?
  5. Should I Really Keep Two?
  6. Does It Have Sentimental Value?
  7. Or Does It Give Me Guilt And Make Me Sad When I See This Item?
You owe it to yourself to do this.  It really won't take that long to do.  Set your timer for 15 minutes.  It is a decision you need to make.  If not, those presents you got will end up on your Dining Room Table and you will still be eating dinner in the Living Room or standing by a counter in the Kitchen.  Try to keep yourself from bringing this year into next.  Ask yourself those seven questions and answer them by implementing them.  Then when it comes to begin practicing "Shining Your Sink" the goal will seem more approachable.

December Is Pamper Yourself Month

Pamper myself this month?  How in the world will I ever find time to do this??  Simple!!  You use your Flylady Timer!  If you want to get through this month's holiday parties and family gatherings, take time each day to pamper yourself!

Just Google "Pamper Yourself" and you will get all kinds of ideas.  There must be something to this if we have such a wealth of information readily available by searching the internet.

One of the best ways to feel good about yourself is a body scrub.  Don't have time?  Make time for a foot scrub!  Soak them in Epsom Salts. This is one part of your body that will thank you ten times fold.  It will make your shopping easier and standing and visiting at your gatherings.

The best thing to moisturize your feet is with Vaseline according to my Dermatologist.  He says take the Vaseline and lather on your feet.  Then slip on a pair of cotton socks.  You already have Vaseline on your hands from putting it on your feet, so why not have a pair of cotton gloves handy and slip those on as well.  Find that book you were always going to read or even one of those little books with beautiful sayings.  Maybe poetry is for you.  There is one book you can never go wrong with and that is the bible.  Say your prayers and pray for a good nights sleep.

One of the things I plan to do this month is get a massage.  It will be a great way to celebrate all my days of Getting Dressed To Shoes, Hair & Makeup.  I have promised myself that I would do this for me.  The benefits of massage are bountiful.  I know this because I used to have one once a month.  Now it has been a few years because the gal that did it moved away and I never went and searched for a new one.  This is the month I will.

I have given you a few ideas as a way to pamper yourself this month.  It will help you to FLY into the New Year!  That is right!  Finally Loving Yourself!  It is a great place to be!  Happy Holidays!
Keep FLYing!

How To Keep Your Walkabout Alive

It is no secret that once I got used to walkabouts with Lily that there were days I couldn't wait to go.  The best walkabouts were when I drove out to the farm and Lily and I would walk a total of a mile.  The last time we went was in November and we both got really cold because of the temperature and the wind.  I hate to say it but I haven't done a walkabout since.

I am going to have to get creative.  I have a stepper climber.  I go in spurts to use it.

It Must Be Time For Another Declutter Session

I am here in my home with mixed feelings.  Having a bit of a time sorting them out.  I have had this feeling before.  Actually I have had these feelings often and in fact Pre-Flylady I believe I had these feeling almost daily.

So what are these feelings?  I have too many things in my home.  Yes I just got a new TV.  That is great and the box is outside.  Today I got the Sound Bar and Blue Ray DVD player both needing a cord I don't have.  I have about every other cord you can imagine for electronics.  I just don't have these specific cords.  So why have I saved all these other cords?  I might need it some day?  Right!

Maybe what I really need is a few hours of quiet time.  Monday I got the TV, Tuesday I put the TV Stand together, yesterday I got the TV hooked up, and today I got the Sound Bar and Blue Ray DVD player with streaming to find that I need a couple of cords I don't have.  Where am I going with this?  My home looks like it is full of clutter again and I don't like it!  There, I said it.  This is the extent of whining I will do because I don't allow whining for myself.

It must be time to pull out the tool box again.  I have a timer in there that I can set for 2 Minute Hot Spot Drill, 7 or 15 Minute Declutter Session. There is this game called Fly Lady Bingo that is done in 15 minute increments and another game called Flylady Triple Dog Dare.  My all time favorite is the 27 Fling Boogie always works for me.

Wait a minute!  There is another tool I completely forgot!  It is the Flylady and Friends Show on Thursdays!  Call it a God Breeze!  The subject is about clutter.  I thought this is great!  It is exactly what I need!  Let's get started!  So I went through the house and did a 27 fling boogie with a trash bag.  Believe you me, anyone can find 27 things to throw out.  Now this can be as small as a twistie, empty containers to a kettle that the coating has peeled away.  Go Me! Go Me!

I know what else is bothering me.  My old TV and stand are in my bedroom!  I vowed never to have clutter in there again!  Before I knew it, a top is laying on top of the TV because I couldn't get to the drawer to put it away.  I took the boxes that I am not ready to get rid of in my multi room because I haven't decided if I am keeping it.  It did help me start to fly again.  As bad as I don't want to put the old TV and Stand in that room, it is interrupting me more having it in a room I use.  So and I hate to say it, I will move it in the multi room for now so I can get some type of normalcy back in my home.  It is better to have all of the clutter in one area than to have it spread across the house.  There are decisions to be made and I can't make them today.  I will be OK with that too.

So what are all of these mixed feelings?  Indecision is one of them.  The point is I can now have some indecision on a couple of things and get on with my routines.  I also have to remember:  "I Always Make Progress When I Jump Back In!"  I will move the old TV and Stand into the Multi Room to be decided if I can use it in that room or to bless it.  All I know is it has to get out of my bedroom so I can get on with my day!
